Prilosec (omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by decreasing acid in the stomach. Prilosec is used for GERD, chronic heartburn, and stomach ulcers. Long-term use of Prilosec can cause magnesium and other mineral deficiencies. (Stomach acid is required for mineral absorption.)

USES IN ME/CFS: Many people with ME/CFS suffer from heartburn, which can be caused by either too much or too little stomach acid (hypochlorhydria). In cases in which heartburn is caused by too little stomach acid, proton pump inhibitors can make the condition worse.
