TREATMENT DATABASE
Lonamin (phentermine) is a mild CNS stimulant that activates dopamine in the brain. It is sometimes recommended in ME/CFS patients with hypersomnia or significant cognitive impairment.
While there is great appeal in seeing immediate improvement in energy levels and cognitive function, most clinicians prescribe these drugs with caution. Dr. Cheney believes that the disabling fatigue of ME/CFS may be a protective mechanism. Therefore, creating artificial energy may in the long run cause relapse and may even exacerbate the disease process.
