TREATMENT DATABASE
Famvir (famcyclovir) is an oral antiviral used for herpesviruses, particularly herpesviruses 6 and 7. Technically, Famvir is a prodrug; that is, a substance that is converted into an active drug once in the body. Famvir functions the same as Zovirax, but with fewer side effects. There is some indication that it may be more effective, as well.
USES IN ME/CFS: Dr. Guyer has observed the patients who experience milder symptoms of shorter duration, accompanied by elevated levels of IgG to EBV, seem to do well with Famvir.

5 | Increase in number of headaches, but only at the beginning of treatment, went away after a few weeks. | My ME/CFS began after an EBV infection and my EBV IgM titers remain positive long after the initial infection. Dr. Martin Lerner's studies suggest famvir as a potential treatment under those conditions. | 4 month 250mg 4X day | 29 | Male | 1 | Went from moderate to mild after 3-4 months of treatment, I don't think it's coincidental. | Mild | 06/19/20 |
